1. Please check out
exercise 4.
You are required to answer two questions in this exercise. The due date
is Feb 14. However, if you need more time, please feel free to let me
know.
2. There will be
a lab session next Thursday, Feb 14 in the morning starting from 9:00 to 12:00.
After the lab session, we will have our regular class from 13:00 to
16:00 as usual. We will discuss Lect 9 (sorting), Lecture 10
(searching), and some part of Lect 11 (Load balancing) on that day.
3. If you need help with your project, we can talk after the class next Thursday (Feb 14).
4. If you have questions about your project and want to ask me questions on
Monday, Feb 11,
we can talk via Skype. I will be available from 10:00 to 16:30. Please
send me an email to let me know the discussion time. My email address

The Exercise Three (version 2) The exercise basically ask you to answer the following questions from Chapter 5 on pages 86 and 87 in Pacheco’s Parallel
Programming with MPI textbook.
- Section
5.11, Question 2.
- You are required to submit a report in class.
- Section 5.12, Question 1 and Question 3.
- You must submit a report
discussing the design and results of your program in class.
- You are also required
to submit the print out of the source code of your program in class.
- Copying of
program will result in ZERO score for all parties involved. You are encouraged to study together and exchange ideas with your classmate. But you have to write the program and answer the exercise question by yourself.
The Quiz on Jan 17th
This quiz will cover the contents of Chapter 5 (Collective communication).
You should study the Exercise Three and Exercise Two thoroughly. One of the main objectives for this quiz is to test your understanding on the previous exercises. You should also review the following slides.
Class on Jan 17thWe will discuss Chapter 6 "Grouping Data for Communication" from Pacheco's textbook. We will use the following PPT slide:

Each student must work on the exercise individually and submit a hard copy in class. For those who has already turned in the exercise last week, you can modify your answer and resubmit your work again if you want to do so.
Attention 1: The submission requirement for the exercise 2 is now changed. YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUBMIT THE ELECTRONIC COPY. However, you are required to turn in your report , which could be written in your own handwriting or typing, IN CLASS. Please write your work in your own words. Copying answers is considered cheating and both parties will get zero score.
Attention 2: There will be a Quiz on Jan 17. The quiz will cover all materials after the midterm. They are:
